Terms of Service

themccabe.family is a private, self-hosted server run by Troy McCabe for family and invited friends. Using it means accepting what follows. It is short because the arrangement is simple.
Who may use it
Only people given an account. Accounts are created by hand and are personal — please do not share your login or pass access on to someone else.
What it costs
Nothing. There is no payment, no subscription, and nothing is for sale.
Reasonable use
Use it for the ordinary personal purposes it exists for. Please do not:
- Use it for anything unlawful, or to store unlawful material.
- Try to reach accounts, files, or systems that are not yours.
- Use it commercially or resell access.
- Upload malicious software, or deliberately disrupt the service.
Your content
What you upload stays yours. No ownership is claimed over it. It is stored so the services can show it back to you and, where you have chosen to, to other family members.
No guarantees
This runs on home hardware and a small rented server, maintained by one person around a day job. It may be slow, go offline without warning, or lose data. It is provided as-is, with no warranty of any kind.
Keep your own copies of anything you would be upset to lose. Backups are taken, but they are not a promise.
Accounts may end
An account may be suspended or removed at any time — most likely because these terms were ignored, or simply because the service is being wound down. Reasonable notice will be given where possible, along with a chance to retrieve your content.
You may ask for your account to be deleted at any time. See the Privacy Policy.
Liability
This is a free service between family and friends. To the extent the law allows, no liability is accepted for any loss arising from using it, from it being unavailable, or from data being lost.
Changes
These terms may change; the date at the top will change with them. Continuing to use the service means accepting the current version.
