themccabe.family is a private, self-hosted family server operated by Troy McCabe. It is not a business and has no customers. This page describes what it stores about the people who use it.
Who runs it
Troy McCabe, as an individual. Contact: troymccabe@gmail.com.
Where the data lives
On hardware owned by the family, in a private residence. A single small rented server acts as the public entry point and passes requests through to that hardware; it stores no personal data itself beyond short-lived web server logs.
Nothing is stored with a third-party cloud provider, and no third party is given access.
What is collected
- Account details — your name, username, and email address, so an account can exist and be identified.
- Content you add — for example photos you upload, or reading and listening progress in the library.
- Server logs — IP address, timestamp, and the URL requested. These are kept briefly to spot faults and abuse, and are rotated automatically.
If you sign in with Google
Google sign-in is offered as a convenience. When you use it, this server receives only your email address, name, and profile picture from your Google account.
The email address is used for one purpose: to match you to an account that already exists here. Google sign-in cannot create an account. If there is no existing account with that address, sign-in is refused and nothing is stored.
No other Google data is requested and none is accessed. Nothing is read from Gmail, Drive, Contacts, Calendar, or Photos. You can disconnect this service at any time from your Google account permissions page.
What is not done
- Nothing is sold, rented, or shared with anyone.
- There is no advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- There is no analytics or tracking software.
- Your data is not used to train anything.
Cookies
Cookies are used only to keep you signed in. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
Keeping and deleting data
Data is kept for as long as the account exists. Ask and your account and its contents will be deleted — email troymccabe@gmail.com. You can also ask for a copy of what is held about you.
Children
Accounts for children in the family are created and managed by their parents.
Security, honestly stated
Access requires signing in, connections are encrypted, and multi-factor authentication is available. This is a family server maintained by one person in his spare time, not an audited commercial platform. It is looked after carefully, but please judge what you put on it accordingly.
